A Century of Baijiu Heritage

In Mianzhu, Sichuan, there is a distillery whose very name is a thousand-year-old legend. It is Shejiantai Distillery Group, founded in 1998, nestled in the Famous Wine & Food Industrial Park of Mianzhu, built between the Mawei River and the Sheshui River.

I. Three Arrows, A Thousand-Year Wine Vein

The origin of the name "Shejiantai" (Archery Platform) is recorded in the Mianzhu County Annals: during a devastating drought, the King of Shu shot three arrows at the foot of the northwestern mountains, praying to heaven — and three springs gushed forth, saving the people from famine and thirst.

In gratitude, the people built the "Archery Platform" beside the Sheshui River. The springs nourished the land — and the land's ancient tradition of brewing. Three arrows brought forth a sacred spring, and from that spring came the fine wine of Shejiantai. That is how this distillery found its name.

II. 1921: A Workshop's Century

The legend is a story; the heritage is measured in real decades. The Gongxing brewing base of Shejiantai began in 1921 as the Daoshenyuan workshop, carrying on the Wei family's traditional baijiu brewing craft — now recognized as intangible cultural heritage — and owns 72 celebrated old fermentation pits of Sichuan Province.

More than a century later, the microbial colonies in those pit walls still flourish, and the old pits still brew new wine. Today the Gongxing base is being transformed into the region's first Shejiantai winery estate — so the story of a century-old workshop can be seen and experienced.

III. The 30th Parallel: Good Water, Good Grain

Mianzhu sits on the golden brewing belt of the 30th parallel north — recognized as one of the world's distinguished wine regions and one of China's great baijiu cities. With a mild climate and abundant rainfall, and backed by the snow-capped Jiuding Mountains, the region's glacial meltwater provides the clean, sweet water that baijiu demands.

Shejiantai's spirit carries the classic five-grain strong-aroma profile with its own signature — mellow and sweet, harmonious aromas, clean finish — a taste stamped by this terroir.

IV. Tradition and Intelligence: Two Bases, One Standard

Alongside the heritage Gongxing base stands the Banqiao brewing base, built for the future: without altering traditional methods, it deploys an intelligent baijiu brewing platform — smart fermentation control, spatial-sliding robots, automated grain cooling, and heat-recovery water systems, all at the domestic leading edge.

Old hands guard the flavor; new technology guards the quality. Past and future, two paths to the same standard.

V. Four Series: Hongtai · Jiantai · Lantai · Jingniang

Shejiantai owns several brands — Shejiantai, Shaohua Shiguang, Jiantai Village — organized around four main series:

• 30 Series (premium): Hongtai 30 (52% vol, limited to 6,000 bottles), Jiantai 30, Lantai 30
• 20 Series (mid-range): Hongtai 20 (52% vol), Jiantai 20, Lantai 20
• Jingniang Series: 46% vol and 52% vol
• Barrel editions: 2.5L / 5L / 5-jin / 10-jin

And the honors speak for themselves: the 2021 IWSC Gold Medal and the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition silver; Jiantai 20 took dual silver for packaging and quality at the 2024 ISGC International Spirits (China) Grand Prix; and the distillery's pits earned official recognition as premium old fermentation pits (40+ years) for Sichuan strong-aroma baijiu.
