At a business dinner there are two kinds of people: those who raise their glasses high, and those who speak plainly. Jiantai 20 is made for the second kind.

It is one of Shejiantai's "20 series": 46% vol, 500ml, five-grain nongxiang (strong-aroma) baijiu, in a restrained yet striking peacock blue bottle.

I. Mianzhu: the nongxiang heartland at latitude 30Β°N

Shejiantai Liquor Group sits in Mianzhu, Sichuan β€” a "World Distinguished Liquor Region" and "China's Famous Liquor City", inside the golden brewing belt of latitude 30Β° north. Mianzhu's brewing history carries a legend a thousand years old. The county gazetteer records that when King Xiu of Shu marched here, drought had parched the land; "the king prayed with three arrows and shot them at the foot of the northwestern mountain β€” at once three springs burst forth." Grateful descendants raised an "arrow platform" by the Sheshui River β€” the platform that gives the distillery its name. The divine Sanjianshui spring shares its water system with the famed Yufei spring, and is itself listed among China's famous springs. Three arrows of the King of Shu brought forth divine springs; from them came the fine liquor of Shejiantai.

II. Pit cellars from 1921 β€” and robots that "brew"

Shejiantai runs two brewing bases. The Gongxing base began with the Daoshenyuan workshop of 1921, carries on the Wei family's traditional baijiu-makingζŠ€θ‰Ί as an intangible cultural heritage, and owns 72 provincial-grade old pit cellars. The Banqiao base built a smart-brewing platform β€” intelligent fermentation, sliding robotic movers, automated cooling and heat recovery β€” giving an ancient craft new precision without altering the traditional process. Sorghum, rice, glutinous rice, wheat and corn are fermented in the solid-state, five-grain method to produce Mianzhu nongxiang's signature soft, sweet, mellow, fragrant character.

III. Peacock blue: the composure of a "conversation wine"

Within Shejiantai's range, the 20 series is the backbone: Hongtai 20 in vermilion and gold, Lantai 20 in deep indigo-silver, and Jiantai 20 in peacock blue β€” a colour born of Chinese ceramic glazes, blue within green, unshowy yet unforgettable. At 46% vol, it belongs to the "restrained school" of nongxiang: the aroma opens generously while the body stays mellow and refreshing β€” a wine for slow sipping and unhurried talk. In 2024, Jiantai 20 took a double silver at the ISGC International Spirits (China) Grand Challenge β€” for both packaging and quality. Its looks are serious; so is its taste.

"Stripped of needless adornment, it goes straight to an honest heart. In mild intoxication, cups rise and fall β€” hearts meeting hearts; with candour and long talks, feelings find their voice." β€” Shejiantai brand book, Jiantai 20
